URGENT .... Need to find adoptive homes for
the following two horses. The owner has sadly just passed away.
OR OPTIONS:
1. Horse share:
If you love horses but cannot afford them, the owner may consider a horse-share
situation. You come out and groom and love on the boys! If you have
a beginner or timid child who would love to have a horse to sit on, a horse to
groom and love - this could be an ideal situation for you, the owner's widow,
and the horse! The horses are located in Chuluota, Florida.
2. Free Permanent
Lease: If you live within 2 hours drive on Central Florida - the
owner's widow would love to visit the boys occasionally.
3. Therapy Horse:
Champ used to work as a therapy horse for a child. Some people enjoy time
around horses as a healthy way to decompress after a stressful day at work.
Both horses are extremely peaceful, gentle and sweet - a real pleasure to be
around. The owner would prefer the horses stay at the current facility but
will consider the horses moving to your facility, with preference to a home
within a 2 hour drive of Oveido, Florida.
This is a very difficult time
for the owner's widow. She is overwhelmed and is desperately sad at the
thought of losing these boys. She feels that due to her work obligations
and living so far from the boarding facility, the fact that she can only come
out and groom at the weekends, the boys deserve better. The boys are
actually very loved and seem very happy. They are currently at a boarding
facility where they are fed and watered by the facility owner. My personal
belief is that the best situation would be for a loving family or person who
would enjoy having horses to relax with, introduce a child to lead line, or just
to teach your horse-crazy family the basics of good horsemanship through
actively practicing every day horse basics.
Champ: Quarter Horse, 15.2hh, Dark Palomino, Approx 23
Years old. Champ was owned by the previous owner since February 1998, and
has also been with his buddy, Tommy Boy, for the past 11 years. It would
be ideal to find a home that could take these guys together. The owner
does not have papers and the age has been established by a vet when the coggins
was pulled. The owner's widow states "Champ is very much a ladies man.
Champ was a therapy horse for his previous owner's child. Many people have
wanted to ride him for his easy going nature. He is a wonderful horse for
a beginner child" Champ will occasionally get spooked at the
suspicious plastic bag blowing in the wind. Champ has kicked at other
horses that have run at him or stuck their noses where they do not belong! Champ
gets along with other horses just fine. He will initially let the other
horses know (politely) that he is in charge! Champ had EPM at one time in
his history. He also has navicular and must wear corrective shoes on his
front feet.

Tommy Boy: Saddlebred, 15.3hh, Approx 22 Years Old,
Sorrel. Tommy Boy was owned by the previous owner since September 1997.
The owner does not have papers and the age has been established by a vet when
the coggins was pulled. The owner's widow states "Tommy Boy is the
clown. He loves to make faces. Tommy does not mind staying under the
radar. Tommy was originally a rescue back in September 1997, so he was
always a little more hard-headed- but since I knew of his past, I refused to use
a heavy hand or whip. An advanced beginner or intermediate rider who knew
what they were doing, with a gentle touch, would love to ride Tommy"
Tommy will sometimes spook at things that come up behind him. He also does
not like 4-wheelers that start suddenly next to him. Tommy can be a loner
in the pasture, if needed. He likes to socialize but will not interfere
with Champ. Tommy also likes the ladies but will not fight Champ over
them! Tommy may have a bowed tendon. Tommy is barefoot.

Considering that both horses have not been ridden for 4 years,
we do not know what might startle them at this point. However, typically a
horse does not forget it's training, it just has to be brought back into shape
carefully, quietly and with keen attention to the fact that their muscles are
weak and their skills may require a little fine tuning. Being aged horses,
I would not recommend them for much more than lead line horses, slow leisurely
trails for a more lightweight rider or companion/therapy horses.
Both horses are "sweethearts". Due to various reasons,
neither have been ridden since 2005. They have been frequently let out of
the paddocks on weekends to wander the property, visit with other horses, or
graze. They have not been in a horse trailer since 1997-1998 as the owner
enjoyed the luxury of having trails near the boarding facility. Both are
classified as "great to excellent" when it comes to leading, x-ties, grooming,
bathing, farrier, vet etc .. but neither of them cares for the taste of worming
paste (whose horse does?!). Neither horse has any vice, the owner's widow
called them "the good ole boys" and added that "both horses are the type that
you can walk around, under, or over whilst they are eating or tied to the
hitching post".
The horses have been kept in an open stall with a large paddock
area. They have shown no signs of cribbing or stall-walking. The
horses had become used to being released on the property over the weekends to
graze and socialize with people or other horses. A rotation of people
would feed the horses in the morning. Until the owner's recent
hospitalization and passing, the owners took care of the horses' needs at night.
Both horses are currently on Senior Pellets and Coastal Hay in
the mornings. They also have Senior Pellets and Orchard hay (plus
carrots!!) in the evenings. They have not been getting any supplements but
the owner was considering putting Tommy on a supplement for additional weight
gain and general health.
Vet records will be released to the adoptive homes. Both
horses have proof of negative coggins, dated 10 August 2009.
The owner's widow says "I just want someone who will love
them as much as my husband and I have. They are wonderful horses!
Now that my husband has passed away, and I will be returning to work soon, I
will not have the time or energy to take care of them as they deserve.
Champ's riding days may be numbered but I feel that Tommy still has a few good
riding years in him. Thank you for anything you can do to help me and my
horses"
These horses will only be adopted out to approved homes.
